It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
