Tehran is willing to reinitiate nuclear talks with Washington on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has stated.

The Iranian diplomat declared only diplomacy was effective, and disclosed recent overtures had come from intermediaries to reopen discussions with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran could not yet authorize the global atomic watchdog to inspect struck enrichment centers for security reasons.

Walking a Complex Route

Araghchi is navigating a complex course since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be acting from a stance of weakness, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had come out more resilient militarily and psychologically from the Israeli-US attack on its atomic facilities in June.

He was talking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an absolute privilege to process nuclear material within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the prior discussions.

Previous Talks Suddenly Terminated

The prior phases of discussions between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and hostile termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, struck Iran's enrichment centers in a two-week conflict that concluded with the American leader asserting the facilities had been destroyed. Subsequently, Western states exercised their authority to restore UN-wide sanctions, but Iran insists they have not had a substantial consequence.

Magic Solution Proposed

Tehran representatives said they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the enrichment issue in earlier negotiations, when it was agreed an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could refine atomic fuel. Each party would have been able to claim victory since local refinement would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's atomic project was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been decided in the discussions that Washington's technical specialists could work within Iranian territory, but that was a logical implication of the partnership suggestion. Current Position

The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been criticized of passivity in the aftermath of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran says negotiations is not part of a show.

In his remarks to the conference, intended to portray the US as a dominant force that abuses the notion of international law, the foreign minister said the two-week conflict revealed the conflict could not be settled by military means.
